SuperVault on the SuperFam App: Protect What Matters Most
Imagine a loved one suddenly passing away, leaving their financial assets inaccessible because no one knows where the critical details are stored. It’s a story many families face—and one that the SuperFam's Vault aims to prevent.
Why do you need your own Super Vault?
The financial landscape in India highlights the importance of a tool like the SuperVault. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), over ₹35,000 crores in unclaimed deposits lie idle across Indian banks - unclaimed for more than 10 years. Additionally, ₹20,000 crores of unclaimed insurance benefits were reported in 2024. These figures represent a significant emotional and financial burden on families who lose access to vital assets after the death of a loved one.
These numbers tell a story that many of us have experienced firsthand or seen in our communities:
Families scrambling to locate documents.
Insurance claims remain unpaid due to missing paperwork.
Bank accounts are locked because heirs are unaware of their existence.
The SuperVault is designed to prevent these scenarios. It ensures that your family has access to important information when they need it most.
Why Everyone Needs a SuperVault
Rational Reasons
Simplified Estate Management: Store all critical details—bank accounts, insurance policies, property documents, and more—in one secure location.
Avoid Unclaimed Assets: Prevent your hard-earned wealth from becoming part of the unclaimed asset statistics.
Ease for Your Family: Spare your loved ones the stress of legal and administrative hurdles during an already emotional time.
Emotional Reasons
Legacy of Care: Leaving a SuperVault shows your family that you cared enough to plan for their future.
Peace of Mind: Rest easy knowing that your family will have everything they need, even when you’re no longer there.
Strengthen Trust: Foster deeper trust with your family members by ensuring their financial well-being.
How Does the SuperVault Work?
Step 1: Setting Up Your Vault
Download the SuperFam app and navigate to the SuperVault feature.
Add important documents, asset details, policy numbers, and notes. You can even upload images & files for reference.
Assign trustees—trusted family members or friends who will have the right to access your vault when needed. The trustees can be your SuperFam connections, or you can add independent trustees with a name & phone number
Select your preferred Access Conditions:
Death Certificate: Access is provided after trustees submit and verify a death certificate.
Waiting Period: Trustees can request access, which will be granted after a 15–60-day waiting period.
Once the Access Conditions are met, all trustees will get access to your vault. Each trustee can only view the assets assigned to them. Each trustee will need a ‘SuperDoc’ that you share with them to decrypt your data.
Security You Can Trust
Your privacy and security are the highest priority. The SuperVault employs end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to ensure your vault’s contents remain private:
Encryption at Its Core: Only you and your chosen trustees can access the vault. Even app administrators cannot view its contents. The decryption keys for the vault are only stored on your device - and is included in each ‘SuperDoc’ that you share with your trustees.
Non-Notification Policy: Trustees are not notified of changes or updates to your vault. This ensures your edits remain completely private as you update your vault to reflect additions and updates to your assets and trustees.
The Role of SuperDocs
A SuperDoc is a 1-page pdf that acts as a vault access tool for your trustees, as well as a vault recovery tool for you.
It is meant to be shared with Trustees for safekeeping. At the point of access, your trustees must possess their unique SuperDoc to access your vault’s contents. Here’s how it works:
Each trustee receives a SuperDoc securely. The doc contains all relevant information and steps to access your vault - at the right time.
The access key within the SuperDoc defines the vault, trustee, and their permissions.
The encryption key that holds the decryption keys necessary to unlock your vault. (Note: Even you can use this key from any of your shared SuperDocs to recover your accounts - if needed)
Without the SuperDoc, even verified trustees cannot access the vault, ensuring the highest level of security - with true end-to-end encryption. No asterisks!
How Is Access Provided?
The SuperVault offers a clear, controlled process for granting access to trustees based on the preferences of the vault owner:
Request Initiation: Trustees request access by submitting a death certificate or initiating the waiting period process.
Verification:
Death certificates are verified within 10 business days.
For waiting periods, multiple notifications are sent to the vault owner (if alive) to ensure there are no unauthorized requests.
Access Granted: Once verified, the vault is unlocked, and trustees can access its contents using the access & encryption keys on their respective ‘SuperDocs’
Is the Vault enough to ensure my family is able to access my assets after I pass away?
There are 3 parts to the entire process of inheriting a family member’s asset after they pass away
Knowledge of the assets: Important info, account numbers, policy documents etc. This is what the SuperVault completely solves for!
Nomination details updated for each asset: Ensure that you have added the right family members as nominees for each asset. In case you want to distribute assets in a different way to applicable family laws - you should also consider making a will. Check out this blog which provides a checklist for nominations across all asset classes.
Claiming the assets: As long as you have the correct information & documents such as Death certificate, succession certificate & asset/nomination documents - most financial institutions have processes in place for the smooth transfer of assets within days or weeks.
